As artists, we have always found ourselves examining the historical and social aspects of culture and community. We founded the South Valley Arts Group in 1992 to provide cultural, recreational and arts education programs for children and adults. Our mission focuses on creativity, or Kuumba, the sixth principle of Kwanzaa. The overall goal of this principle is: "To do always as much as we can, in the way that we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful than we inherited it."1
